Last Tuesday, The Electric Car Scheme team were invited to visit Polestar at their Head Office in Bicester, to see Polestar 3 which is due to be released at the end of this year. 

Polestar is a new player in the electric car industry and is owned by Volvo. Their first model, the Polestar 2, is already popular in the UK with over 16,000 registrations. They are planning to release the Polestar 3 soon and have recently announced the Polestar 4, which is expected to arrive in the UK in 2024.

So what do we learn about the new Polestar 3?

An impressive range up to 380 miles per charge (depending on the model)

A powerful 111kWh battery - much bigger than what rival brands currently offer

A whopping 510 horsepower (depending on the model)

Charge time: with a AC 11kWh charger (your typical home charge point) 11 hours or with a DC 250 kWh (rapid charger) 10-80% in 30 minutes

Polestar 1 and 2 were inspired by Volvo but, Polestar 3 will be the first car to be designed as a Polestar from day 1. While we are on the topic of its build, Polestar said that it is highly sustainable in both the design and construction. 53% of Polestar 3 interior is made up of Bio-attributed MicroTech (an innovative upgrade to the usual leather), this material produces 70% less CO2 emissions than conventional PVC

What more could you ask for in a car?

Polestar 3, their first electric SUV is going to be bigger than the Polestar 2, but will drive like your everyday EV - light and easy. The exterior design is unlike any other electric SUV on the market today, 1.3 megapixel HD LED headlights that adapt to the car’s surroundings, frameless interior and exterior mirrors that auto-dim when sensing extremely bright lights and, a panoramic roof made of specialist technology to reduce glare and UV radiation. 

The only way to describe it is a combination of luxury, sport and practicality - plus it looks great from every angle.

Polestar really has thought of everything with this car, even the air quality within the car. To cater for cabin comfort, the Polestar 3 has an air particle filter which reduces the pollutants and pollen particles inside the car.

A major focus for Polestar is their impact on their environment, their research and development team constantly has sustainability in their minds. 

You will find sustainable materials throughout the Polestar 3, from the repurposed aluminium providing the sleek, futuristic look, to the animal welfare approved leather and wool upholstery.

The proof will also be in the Polestar 4 - the interior is due to be made with mono-materials. Using this type of material means that it can be recycled all at once (without having to be broken down and separated). So it is even MORE sustainable than just using recycled material at the production stage. 


There is no doubt that Polestar 3 is going to make waves in the market with many of its features rivalling the likes of major players such as Tesla.

The exterior has a sleek and unique design with a sporty nature that offers a more SUV look in comparison to the Tesla Model Y. When it comes to the WLTP range, the Polestar 3 promises up to 380 miles on its Long Range model. This is a major leap for EV technology as the average electric car has a range of 212 miles with top EVs like Tesla Model Y offering an impressive 331 miles of range.
