EVs That May Be Eligible for the Electric Car Grant - Full List of Latest EVs

The UK Government’s new Electric Car Grant scheme launched on 16 July 2025 - offering up to £3,750 off the cost of qualifying EVs under £37,000. And when you combine this with salary sacrifice savings of up to 50%, many drivers could save more than £7,500 a year on a new electric car.
The grant uses a two-tier structure based on environmental criteria. Cars with the greenest credentials (Band One) get the full £3,750 grant. Others still qualify for £1,500.
We’ve listed all 50+ electric cars that could be eligible under the new rules - so you can get ahead of the game. But we’re still waiting on official confirmation from the Department for Transport and vehicle manufacturers about which cars will definitely qualify.
We’ll keep this list updated as soon as we know more.
How do I Access the Electric Car Grant?
The Electric Car Grant is available to UK drivers purchasing or leasing qualifying electric vehicles through approved dealers. Eligibility extends to:
Private buyers purchasing eligible EVs outright
Personal lease customers taking delivery of qualifying vehicles
Salary sacrifice participants through approved workplace schemes like The Electric Car Scheme
Business lease customers for vehicles under £37,000 with qualifying sustainability credentials
The grant applies per vehicle, not per customer, meaning individuals can benefit from multiple grants when purchasing different eligible vehicles over time. However, the vehicle must be new and meet all sustainability criteria to qualify for grant support.

How do Vehicle Manufacturers (OEMs) Qualify to Offer the Grant?
Vehicle manufacturers must meet strict environmental and sustainability requirements to qualify their models for the Electric Car Grant scheme. Eligible manufacturers must:
Demonstrate carbon neutrality across their UK operations by 2030
Achieve Science-Based Targets (SBT) validation for emissions reduction commitments
Maintain transparent supply chain reporting including battery sourcing and production methods
Operate certified environmental management systems such as ISO 14001
Commit to circular economy principles including battery recycling and vehicle lifecycle responsibility
Manufacturers undergo annual assessments to maintain eligibility, ensuring continued compliance with evolving environmental standards. Those failing to meet requirements face temporary or permanent exclusion from the grant scheme.
Science-Based Targets (SBT)
The grant's sustainability criteria centre on Science-Based Targets (SBT), a globally recognised framework for corporate climate action. Manufacturers must demonstrate:
Scope 1 & 2 Emissions: Direct and indirect emissions from operations must reduce by at least 42% by 2030 (from 2020 baseline), aligned with 1.5°C global warming targets.
Scope 3 Emissions: Supply chain emissions, including battery production and raw material extraction, must show measurable reduction pathways verified by the Science Based Targets initiative.
Net-Zero Commitment: Long-term targets for achieving net-zero emissions across value chains by 2050, with interim milestones every five years.
Third-Party Validation: All targets must receive formal approval from the Science Based Targets initiative, ensuring alignment with climate science and Paris Agreement objectives.
Band One classification (£3,750 grant) requires full SBT validation plus additional criteria including renewable energy usage above 80% and verified carbon-neutral manufacturing. Band Two classification (£1,500 grant) requires SBT commitment with approved interim targets and measurable progress toward validation.
This rigorous framework ensures grant recipients support the most environmentally responsible manufacturers while maximising both environmental impact and consumer savings when combined with electric car salary sacrifice benefits.
*The list of vehicles shown above pertains to cars that OEM’s can seek grants for. Despite being eligible in principle - the receipt of the grant will depend on overall manufacturer credentials and green performance. We will update the list as more details emerge.
